Prof. Gal Richter Levin<\/h2>

Prof. Richter-Levin is a Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at the Sagol Department of Neurobiology and the School of Psychology at the University of Haifa. He obtained his PhD in Neurobiology (1992) at the Weizmann Institute, Rehovot, Israel, was an HFSP postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Tim Bliss at the National Institute for Medical Research, London, and in 1995 he joined the University of Haifa, where I founded and led the Haifa Forum for Brain and Behavior. \nHe was the president of the Israeli Society for Biological Psychiatry (2006 \u2013 2008), served as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, University of Haifa (2009-2013), and as president of the Israel Society for Neuroscience (ISFN) (2015-2017). He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the National Institute for Psychobiology, and a member of the British-Israeli Science Council.\n

About the Laboratory for Behavioral Neuroscience\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>

Research in the laboratory focuses on the understanding of the neurobiology of\u00a0stress-related disorders<\/strong>, <\/span>particularly Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and stress-induced depression, using animal models. We examine long-term alterations in brain areas associated with processing of emotions and emotional memories, such as the hippocampus, amygdala and prefrontal cortex. We also study the effects of stressful experiences in early life on cognitive and emotional abilities in adulthood.<\/p>

We study mechanisms of stress resilience<\/strong><\/span>, and how these can be enhanced.<\/p>

We study\u00a0individual differences<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0in response to stress and trauma, and their implications to understanding the subjective nature of the perceived stress experience.<\/p>

We also study Individual differences in response to treatment, towards developing tools for personalized mental medicine<\/strong><\/span>.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
